Bunions

Bunions although not strictly a medical term, in common usage it is taken to mean the bony lumps on the inside of the foot at the base of the big toe. At one time the cause was thought to be narrow and pointed court shoes, however there are now known to be a number of causative factors. The tendency is thought to be hereditary and early diagnosis in young patients is helpful in order to eliminate some of the predisposing factors. Much can be done by the chiropodist to alleviate the pain of bunions. He is also the specialist best able to help the patient decide whether surgery is indicated or not.
